Transponder Key Blanks 101
Commonly referred to as Chip Keys, Transponder Keys are here to reduce theft. Transponders communicate with your car and tell it to start when correct, or not to start when incorrect or not present.
Transponder keys basically come in two styles:
-
User Programmable. These keys require no special equipment, and can be programmed into your car using simple steps found in your owners manual. They are also available for purchase from us.
-
Not User Programmable. These keys require specialized machines to "clone" or add keys to your car. These specialized machines are usually available locally at your better locksmiths or dealerships. Cloning a key is like burning a CD. Your key is inserted into a machine which memorizes its transponder value. The blank key is then inserted into the machine and the memorized information gets programmed into your new key. Once cut, this programmed key will operate your car.
Find Your Vehicle Keys Here can be found in the upper right hand corner of every page. Ilco makes it as simple as looking up year, make, and model to find your vehicle keys. This pdf also shows if your vehicle uses transponder technology, and if so, shows you equipment required or procedures in adding transponder keys to your vehicle.
